Got a diesel car? Prices are lower this week.

As anticipated last Friday, this week (18 August) begins with a reduction in the price of standard diesel.

At the time this article was published, the average price of standard diesel had fallen by 1.3 cents. Standard petrol, by contrast, is holding at last week’s average price (source: Mais Gasolina).

All told, the average price of standard diesel now stands at €1.539/l, while standard petrol remains at €1.691/l.

Looking only at the major fuel retailers, BP and Galp cut the price of diesel by 1.5 cents per litre, while Repsol reduced the same fuel by 2 cents per litre.

As usual, the reference point used to calculate fuel prices is the figures released by the Directorate-General for Energy and Geology (DGEG)-in this case, those published last Friday, 15 August.

The values shown by the DGEG already include the discounts applied by retailers, as well as the Government measures currently in force. Even so, it is important to stress that these are average, indicative figures and may differ from the prices displayed at individual filling stations.

Current government measures affecting fuel prices (standard diesel and standard petrol)

The Government measures introduced in 2022 to cushion the rise in fuel prices remain in place, focusing primarily on the level of ISP (the tax on petroleum products).

This year, the ISP increased by three cents per litre; however, because the carbon tax rate fell, there has been no change to the overall tax burden on fuels.
