Car insurance is set to become more expensive in 2026. That is the outlook from Pisca Seguros, the online insurance service from the Piscapisca.pt platform, which is forecasting higher policy prices for two reasons: claims are rising (meaning greater risk) and repair work is also becoming more expensive (meaning higher costs).
“O aumento dos seguros será inevitável pelos fatores mencionados”, said Filipe Pestana Neves, the marketplace director. Even so, the platform says it is working on solutions designed to better balance cost and value for customers.
Pisca Seguros: more accidents and rising costs
According to figures from the ANSR - the National Road Safety Authority (Portugal) - in the first six months of 2025 there were 17 409 injury accidents recorded, 3,6% more than in the same period the year before.
On top of this, the average cost of repairing claims has also increased, reflecting higher parts prices and a shortage of specialist labour - particularly in collision repair, bodywork and paint within Portuguese garages.
In this respect, electric vehicles bring an added complication after an accident when compared with vehicles that run purely on combustion. These models have higher average repair bills because of the technical demands associated with batteries, high-voltage systems and the need for specialist labour.
“Em 2026, vamos alargar as nossas soluções de seguros, com especial foco nos veículos elétricos, e lançar um novo seguro de avarias, pensado para responder às necessidades reais dos nossos clientes”, Filipe Pestana Neves, director of Piscapisca.pt, told Razão Automóvel.
