The Government is putting the finishing touches to a new phase of incentives for purchasing 100% electric vehicles, expected to deliver a very significant financial boost.

Information first reported by Negócios confirms that the Executive intends to restart the Environmental Fund’s “voucher” programme, after the first round was used up in just a few days - it opened on 31 March and ran out shortly afterwards. The only exception was for Private Social Solidarity Institutions (IPSS) and companies.

According to Negócios, the responsible body has already set the overall budget for this new €20 million round - around 50% higher than the previous phase - with only the official opening date for applications still to be defined.

More Environmental Fund “vouchers” for 100% electric vehicles, but the amount per car stays the same

This allocation will make it possible to increase the number of grants available while keeping the fixed amount paid in each category: 100% electric cars, motorbikes, bicycles, e-scooters, and individual chargers as well. For cars, the amount is €4,000 for private individuals and €5,000 for Private Social Solidarity Institutions (IPSS).

The new programme is expected to revive demand momentum, but it will also renew pressure on the Environmental Fund, which still has hundreds of awarded grants awaiting payment.

For now, the only thing missing is confirmation of when the new notice will be published. Anyone considering buying an electric vehicle has good reason to keep a close eye on developments: the incentives are coming back.
