Meta is rolling out slimmer, lighter smart glasses that are better suited to prescription lenses.

Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta glasses were a runaway success in 2025, with sales more than tripling. To strengthen the line-up, Meta and EssilorLuxottica have announced (on 31 March) a set of updates focused on design, comfort and inclusivity. While prescription lenses were already available on earlier models, the refreshed Ray-Ban range is intended to make Meta’s connected wearables accessible to a wider group of people. Meta says the new range works with “almost all prescriptions”, and both companies have significantly improved comfort so the glasses can be worn from morning to night.

Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta: slimmer optical designs for all-day comfort

Two new optical styles headline the update. The “Blayzer Optics” model adopts a rectangular look, while “Scriber Optics” goes for a rounder silhouette. Both are thinner and lighter than previous versions. Meta also highlights new ergonomic touches, including interchangeable nose pads and adjustable temple tips. Alongside the comfort upgrades, these new glasses keep the same features as earlier versions.

In the United States, these new products will start at US$499, and Meta says they will also be sold in selected international markets.

New colours and style options across Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) and Oakley Meta

Beyond the more comfortable, prescription-friendly additions, Meta has also announced fresh colourways and styling choices for the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) and Oakley Meta ranges. Although the company did not unveil brand-new features on the day, it did preview several software improvements planned for spring and summer.

One upcoming change is a simpler nutrition-tracking experience using the glasses. Meta is also working on deeper WhatsApp integration, enabling Meta AI to summarise messages or answer questions about what’s being discussed in a conversation-for instance, asking the AI to remind you what a contact suggested for dinner.

Meta Ray-Ban Display: Instagram Reels, 2048 and widgets on the built-in screen

Meta’s plans for the Meta Ray-Ban Display models-the smart glasses with a built-in screen, which are still not available in France-are even more noteworthy. Meta has announced the ability to scroll through Instagram Reels videos directly on the glasses’ display, and it is adding two new games, including 2048.

The company also revealed widgets designed to surface key information at a glance, such as reminders, the weather, your calendar and stock prices.

What this shift means for prescription wearers

By prioritising near-universal prescription compatibility and adding adjustable fit components, Meta and EssilorLuxottica are clearly targeting day-to-day usability rather than occasional, gadget-style wear. For many people, the practical test will be whether these lighter frames stay comfortable during long periods-commuting, working and walking-without pressure points on the nose or ears.

As with any prescription-capable smart glasses, availability can vary by market and by lens requirements. Prospective buyers will want to confirm which prescriptions and lens options are supported locally, and whether particular coatings or lens types affect lead times or pricing.
