Available in Portugal since the start of 2025, the Renault 5 E‑Tech has generated plenty of headlines ever since its unveiling. And while just about everything has already been said about it - and about what it could mean for the affordable EV segment - one key piece was still missing: the long-awaited version priced below 25 000 euros.
Until now, the Renault 5 E‑Tech was sold with only two power options: the entry model from 27 500 euros, with 90 kW (120 PS) and a 40 kWh battery, and the range-topper with 110 kW (150 PS) and a 52 kWh battery, with prices starting at 33 mil euros.
Renault has now finally opened orders for the most accessible version of its new model. It is called Five, it delivers 70 kW (95 PS) and uses the same 40 kWh battery as the 120 PS version. The price? From 24 900 euros - a figure that places it among the cheapest electric cars on sale in Portugal. Find out which they are:
Soon, the 90 kW (120 PS) version will also be available with the 52 kWh battery, in Evolution trim. This change will enable a driving range of up to 410 km. Prices start at 31 mil euros.
Renault 5 E‑Tech Five: What do you lose?
As well as being the least powerful, the most affordable Renault 5 is also the one with the shortest range in the line-up - although only by a small margin. According to the French brand, it can cover up to 310 km on a single charge (WLTP cycle), just two kilometres fewer than the 120 PS version (40 kWh battery).
The biggest difference is in charging. The Five version does not support direct current (DC) charging. Instead, it can only be charged on alternating current (AC), at up to 11 kW. On top of that, this version does without automatic air conditioning, a heat pump, a battery temperature optimisation system, or the V2L option (vehicle-to-load).
Even so, it comes as standard with 18-inch steel wheels, Full LED headlights, a 7-inch digital instrument display and a 10.1-inch central multimedia screen and, of course, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration.
In addition, the Renault 5 Five includes 15 safety and driver-assistance systems, highlighted by active emergency braking, lane-keeping assist and Renault’s emergency call service.
How is the Renault 5 E‑Tech range structured in Portugal?
With the arrival of this version, the Renault 5 is now offered in Portugal with three distinct powertrains - 70 kW (95 PS), 88 kW (120 PS) and 110 kW (150 PS) - which can be paired with two battery capacities, 40 kWh or 52 kWh.
The line-up is also split into five trim levels, from Five (the base version) through to Roland‑Garros, the name given to a special edition inspired by the iconic tennis tournament. Prices are structured as follows:
