This is what happened to the new MacBook Pro after it fell and tumbled down the stairs. A Reddit user shared photos of the damage.

The laptop came away with only minor damage

Laptops are not usually associated with rugged durability in the way smartphones are, yet a Reddit user posting under the name NoCriticism7596 has shared a story of her MacBook Pro tumbling out of a rucksack and rattling down a staircase. Even so, it ended up with nothing more than light knocks around the outer edges of the chassis.

According to the owner, the device fell from the bag and travelled roughly 4 metres, struck the edge of a step, and then continued to roll all the way down the remaining 25 steps.

As the photos show, the metal body absorbed the impact, but the visible damage is far from severe.

"I was running out of class and, without noticing I'd forgotten to zip up my backpack, I swung it over my shoulder to grab something. When I quickly swung the backpack over my shoulder, my laptop literally flew out of it about 4 metres forward down the stairs, landed directly on the edge of one of the steps, and then rolled down the remaining 25 steps.

The laptop was in a soft sleeve, mostly to protect it from minor scratches in my backpack, but the sleeve tore at the point of first contact with the stair edge. Seeing the damage already done to the sleeve, I mentally prepared myself to pull out a completely smashed laptop that I'd spent $2000 on less than three weeks ago.

When I finally worked up the courage to pull it out, I couldn't believe my eyes. It went flying down the stairs at an incredible speed, and the only damage was scratches on the casing?? The impact was so hard that the screen shifted slightly to the left from the base by about a millimetre, but there was no damage to the display. I'm still going to pay for repairs under Apple+ because the scratches and the slightly twisted body annoy me, but the build quality is just unbelievable!"
