The new Volvo EX60 is edging ever closer to European roads. Little by little, the Swedish brand has been drip-feeding information about a model designed to take on its familiar rivals: the BMW iX3, Audi Q6 and Mercedes GLC.
With just two weeks to go until its first public unveiling, Volvo has shared further headline figures for the EX60-most notably its driving range and the battery warranty details.
Built on Geely’s SPA3 platform, the Volvo EX60 will usher in a new generation of electrified models for the brand, not only in terms of the electric hardware but also how the cars are made. It will be the first Volvo manufactured using mega casting, following investment to update the Torslanda plant in Sweden.
Volvo EX60 range: a new record for Volvo
According to the Swedish manufacturer, the new Volvo EX60 will be able to travel up to 810 km (preliminary figure) on the WLTP cycle on a single charge, making it the longest-range electric Volvo to date.
Thanks to its 800 V architecture, it is capable of adding up to 340 km of range in just 10 minutes when connected to a charger delivering up to 400 kW. Volvo’s stated aim is to reach range levels and charging speeds comparable to those of combustion-engined cars.
Volvo EX60 electrical system
Volvo has not yet confirmed the EX60’s total battery capacity, but it has already released technical details suggesting the range increase is not simply the result of packing in more battery cells.
The company has integrated the battery directly into the vehicle structure using cell-to-body technology, and it has developed the electric motors in-house with the end goal of cutting overall system weight as much as possible. The logic is straightforward: less weight means more range.
Final figures have not been published, but Volvo has announced that every EX60 customer will benefit from a 10-year battery warranty.
Another key step forward-already mentioned-is the use of mega casting, which replaces hundreds of smaller components with a single, high-precision cast part. This approach also helps reduce weight and improve performance.
When does it arrive?
The Volvo EX60 will be presented on 21 January 2026, during a live-streamed event from Stockholm, Sweden. On that date, the brand says it will disclose the remaining specifications of a model it intends to position at the top of its class.
It is a category Volvo knows inside out. The Volvo XC60, which will continue to be sold alongside this fully electric “sibling”, has been the Swedish marque’s best-selling model for several years.
Pricing for the Volvo EX60 has not yet been announced, but it is expected to be revealed during the first quarter of 2026. Market launch is anticipated in the second half of the year.
