After a particularly challenging year for Tesla - a period from which it is only now beginning to show signs of recovery - the American brand is stepping up its product push with updates across its range. Following the launch of the substantially revised Model Y and the debut of its more affordable version, updated editions of the Model S and Model X are now arriving.
Both models are already available to order in Portugal. Pricing starts at 109 990 euros for the Model S and 114 990 euros for the Model X.
Since their launches - in 2012 for the Model S and in 2015 for the Model X - Tesla has been continuously introducing incremental improvements to these models. The most far-reaching update came in 2021, with the introduction of the Plaid versions, bringing a new powertrain, chassis and redesigned interiors.
What has changed in the Tesla Model S and Model X?
In this latest update, the American marque is focusing on improved efficiency, greater comfort and a quieter cabin. The interior has been given better isolation, thanks to new acoustic materials used both in the chassis and throughout the cabin.
Externally, both models gain new wheels (19″ and 21″ on the Model S; 20″ and 22″ on the Model X), and their air suspension has been revised. On the SUV, there is also a roomier third row, with increased shoulder width.
More efficient
As a result, Tesla’s two models are now more efficient, gaining range without any change to maximum power. The Plaid versions, naturally, remain the most extreme.
The Model S Plaid has also received changes aimed at improving stability at higher speeds. The front and rear sections feature a revised design and now include a carbon-fibre spoiler and an optimised diffuser, improving airflow and stability.
Tesla has additionally introduced new stabilisation components and carbon-sleeved rotors, intended to deliver a more linear power curve. In practice, these upgrades translate into sharper handling and performance that is more consistent and more resistant to fatigue, particularly during more “demanding” use.
Despite the efficiency gains, the powertrains themselves remain unchanged on both the Model S and the Model X. The updates are concentrated mainly on software management and energy optimisation, enabling range improvements without mechanical alterations.
Both models also continue to include unlimited Supercharger charging and free Premium connectivity for the first owner for as long as they keep the vehicle.
When will they arrive?
As noted above, both models can already be ordered in Portugal, with prices starting from 109 990 euros for the Model S and 114 990 euros for the Model X. The first customer deliveries begin as soon as next month.
