The least powerful Volvo EX30 on sale today delivers 200 kW (272 cv), which still gives the B-SUV properly strong performance - the 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 5.7s makes that clear. Figures you might normally associate with a hot hatch, yet they belong to the entry-level version of the Swedish brand’s smallest and most affordable electric SUV.
That is precisely why Volvo is preparing to add a new, even more accessible variant with a lower output: 110 kW (150 cv). As the company states, it is the “power you need for the person who requires a premium electric experience for everyday journeys”.
This new entry option offers roughly half the power of the previous base version, which is expected to remain in the line-up. It will continue to use the same 51 kWh and 69 kWh batteries - delivering ranges of up to 339 km and 476 km. Those figures are very close to the 200 kW (272 cv) model: 335 km and 475 km. Although pricing for the new variant has not yet been confirmed, it is expected to come in below the current 38 632 euros.
More Volvo EX30 updates?
The new entry-level version forms part of a broader model update (MY 2027), focused on a stronger technology offering, a refreshed interface, and new interior choices.
Starting with the interface (infotainment system), Volvo has redesigned it to make frequently used functions easier to reach. The settings area has also been restructured, with menu navigation simplified.
In some markets, the Volvo EX30 will also gain Vehicle-to-Load (V2L). This technology allows the EX30’s battery to be used as a power source to run or charge external devices - such as electric bikes, tools, or camping equipment - via a dedicated adapter.
Both the updated interface and the V2L feature will also be made available to existing EX30 owners through over-the-air updates scheduled for the summer.
New interiors
Inside, two additional themes will be offered: “Harvest”, defined by lighter, more neutral tones, and “Black”, with a darker overall look. The latter will also be included in the Black Edition specification.
There are also changes for the Cross Country version, which will now be offered with Plus equipment levels and a single-motor (rear) set-up. Until now, this variant has only been available with two electric motors and all-wheel drive.
“By improving the user experience, introducing new premium interior options and adding smart technology, such as the ability to turn the car into a portable charger to charge other electric devices, we are making everyday life easier and more enjoyable”.
Alexander Petrofski, Director of the 30/40 Product Line at Volvo Cars
When will it arrive?
Volvo has not yet announced specific dates for the launch of the EX30 (MY 2027), but it is expected soon. Prices have not been confirmed either.
