Huawei Pura X Max is the new foldable smartphone

Huawei has scheduled a launch event for 20 April, where it will unveil an updated Pura line-up. The refresh is expected to include the Pura 90 series, which Huawei has already started teasing, as well as a foldable handset in the Pura X range. According to the leaker Digital Chat Station, the new foldable model will be called Pura X Max.

Another tipster, Fixed Focus Digital, has also shared the supposed front and rear design of the foldable device.

Unlike the original Pura X, the new X Max is reported to adopt a slightly different, wider form factor. The overall approach is said to resemble the anticipated Apple iPhone Fold (or Ultra) design, although Huawei would be the first to release a device in this style.

In terms of displays, the Pura X Max is rumoured to feature a 7.69-inch internal WQHD+ screen and a 5.5-inch outer display. By comparison, the original Huawei Pura X comes with a 6.3-inch internal OLED panel and a 3.5-inch external screen.

The larger internal display is expected to provide more usable space thanks to slimmer bezels and a small cut-out for the front-facing camera. The outer screen, which is said to include a similar cut-out, is intended for everyday tasks. Huawei is also expected to retain a 16:10 aspect ratio, matching the previous model.

On the hardware side, the Pura X Max is believed to run on Huawei’s Kirin 9030 system-on-chip, which is also expected to power the Pura 90 series. The chip is reported to use a new 9-core architecture.

Camera-wise, the device is tipped to include a Huawei Red Maple quad-camera system, with particular attention placed on improving the telephoto lens.

Meanwhile, Apple is reportedly developing a foldable iPhone with a similar tablet-like aspect ratio that could appear in September. Samsung is also said to be working on a wider foldable called the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide.

Fixed Focus Digital has previously shared details about a computer version of HarmonyOS, leaked photos of the new iPhone SE4, and posted renders of the Huawei Pocket 2-as well as claiming that Apple had stopped work on a foldable iPhone.

Digital Chat Station has earlier been the first to accurately report the specifications of the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro, along with saying that the Realme GT 7 Pro would use a bright Samsung display and that the Dimensity 9400 SoC would launch ahead of the Snapdragon 8 Elite.
