Additised fuels are not all made the same; what sets them apart is the recipe and the treat rate of multifunctional performance additives - the chemical element (extra substances) that changes how a fuel behaves. Each brand uses its own additive package with a proprietary formulation, and Galp says it continues to invest in developing its fuels.
With the new Evologic Extra, Galp claims higher performance and greater durability for engine components, helping motorists achieve genuine savings.
According to Galp, this new fuel improves combustion efficiency, boosts engine output and can make it possible to travel up to 65 km more per tank(*), while cutting fuel use and minimising emissions.
Galp also states that the new additised Evologic Extra formulation - which replaced the previous Evologic products - includes advanced cleaning technology designed to keep the fuel delivery and injection systems free from carbon deposits. The brand says this leads to more efficient combustion, optimised consumption and, as a result, more kilometres covered per tank.
That cleaning and protection effect is said to bring further advantages: it helps to prevent corrosion, reduces the build-up of debris in filters, and limits the fuel’s natural oxidation. The outcome? Less friction, reduced premature wear and lower engine maintenance costs. In Galp’s online calculator, you can enter your car’s details and simulate the potential benefit of this fuel:
Galp Evologic Extra tested in the laboratory
The brand says it wants to dispel “some perceptions about additised fuels”. The announced gains were verified using international technical standards (ASTM and ISO) and Coordinating European Council (CEC) engine tests, carried out in independent, accredited laboratories.
These tests used reference engines under controlled, repeatable conditions, comparing Evologic Extra with standard (non-additised) fuels under the same parameters. The results indicate fuel-consumption reductions of up to 5,2% for diesel and up to 3,97% for petrol.
In addition, the company emphasises that this fuel keeps fuel supply and injection systems clean, helps prevent corrosion and extends engine service life.
The myths about additised fuels
Another point highlighted is the compatibility of Evologic Extra (diesel or petrol) with all engines, from older units to the latest designs, including direct-injection petrol hybrid powertrains.
This is intended to challenge the idea that additised fuels are not effective in hybrids.
However, Galp says there are further myths that do not match reality. “You only notice a difference on long journeys” is one of them. The company insists that the advantages of Evologic Extra fuels can be felt on urban routes as well as on longer trips. It says the fuel provides not only immediate benefits, but also longer-term gains when used consistently.
Another myth is that this fuel “is only for top-of-the-range cars”. Galp maintains that any vehicle with an internal combustion engine running on diesel or petrol can benefit, regardless of segment or age. The outcome, it says, is always the same: more kilometres per tank, lower maintenance costs and higher efficiency.
*The Galp Evologic Extra formula, using a new technology, enables fuel-consumption reductions of up to 5,2% for diesel and up to 3,97% for petrol. In a 50 L diesel tank, with consumption of 4 litres/100 km, it allows up to +65 km. Each test was carried out in an accredited external laboratory, using reference engines and controlled conditions, comparing against standard fuels that comply with the specifications set out in legislation.
