Tesla Model Y Standard Long Range rear-wheel drive delivers 657 km WLTP range

Only a few months have passed since Tesla unveiled the Model Y Standard - a simpler, less well-equipped and more affordable take on the American SUV. The brand has not stopped there and, continuing this low-cost approach to the SUV, it has now introduced the new Tesla Model Y Standard Long Range rear-wheel drive, which becomes the Model Y with the longest range in the line-up.

As the name suggests, this is the extended-range version of the cheapest Model Y, with up to 657 km of WLTP range. Put into context, it can cover 123 km and 35 km more between charges than the Model Y Standard and the rear-wheel-drive Model Y Premium, respectively.

With deliveries set to start next February, the new Tesla Model Y Standard Long Range rear-wheel drive is already available to order, with prices from 46 990 euros - 7000 euros more than the Standard version.

Within the Model Y family, it offers the greatest range while still costing 3000 euros less than the rear-wheel-drive Premium and 6000 euros less than the all-wheel-drive Premium. However, those savings come with a few omissions…

What changes on the Tesla Model Y?

The Model Y Standard Long Range simply adds the longer-range option. That means the styling stays as it was. Like the base Standard version, it does without the front LED light bar, uses specific body panels and, at the rear, replaces the light strip with simpler tail-lights.

It also brings new wheels, called Aperture, which are smaller (18″) and fitted with new black plastic covers designed to maximise efficiency and aerodynamics.

The biggest differences are found inside, though. Here too, the Model Y Standard Long Range loses the panoramic roof and swaps electrically adjustable synthetic-leather seats - with heating and ventilation - for fabric seats that are manually adjusted and have no ventilation system.

On top of that, the steering wheel also loses electric adjustment, the 8″ touchscreen for the second row is removed, and the audio system drops from 15 to 7 speakers.

Most efficient Model Y yet

The new Tesla Model Y Standard Long Range rear-wheel drive uses a single electric motor on the rear axle producing 220 kW (299 cv), powered by a larger 75 kWh battery.

The payoff is the best range in the line-up - up to 657 km (WLTP) - made possible as it is also the most efficient Model Y to date, with claimed consumption of just 12.7 kWh/100 km.

Deliveries of the American SUV will begin next February, with prices starting at 46 990 euros. Here is how the range is structured:
